My charger gets very hot and the battery no longer holds a charge (Iconia Tab 8)

For the past few weeks, my tablet battery does not seem to hold a charge and the charger gets VERY hot.  I'm concerned about the fire hazzard this may be.  Could the problem be the battery, and if so, what fix can be done or should I try buying another charging cord.

    Sounds like the charger has an internal short. Try a different charger if you can and relace the bad one of another works correctly. If a different charger also gets too hot it's likely a bad battery.

    Thank you Billsley for your response....I was thinking I should try a new charger but figure it's more likely the battery.  I've been reading that I'm not the only one with a problem like this.
