Hi guys,

I just bought my new Acer Predator 15 base model (8gb ram, 1tb HDD, gtx970m 3gb), and I was wondering if there was any specific thing I should do before starting using it (what I mean is if I need to do specific updates (BIOS, graphic card etc.)

Last question was if you recommand an SSD, I know it is something that I should get ASAP but I wanted to know if the pc works fine in your opinion even without it.

Thanks a lot guys

Hope to get an answer

Go to the Acer website and register your laptop.

From there, you can download the updated BIOS and install it. This is an important step for any new laptop purchase, no matter the brand. A lot of glitches and crashes users report after buying new laptops is because they do not update the BIOS to the most current version.

Your base model should have come with a 128gb SSD installed on it already.

For myself, that's enough for now. The OS is already on it which provides a snappy Windows experience.

First of all thanks a lot for the respinse, I appreciate that. In fact I didn't know how to register my PC , so thanks again.
For the ssd I bought a Samsung 850 evo m.2 (256gb) for under 100$ and now I have to clone what I have on my HDD and make it boot from there.

Your OS should currently be located on the 128gb SSD that's already pre-installed on the laptop, not the 1tb HDD.

If I were you, I would just leave the OS where it is and install your 256gb SSD as an additional fast storage option for files and games.

Oh, I'm curious, from where did you buy your laptop and for how much?

As far as where I am (the USA), I am not aware of an Acer Predator without an SSD.

I live in Europe, bought from a store in Rome, paid 1400€ whereas in the official shop it is listed between 1600-1700€

Is it safe to update the BIOS coz I'm worried about the warning stated in the Acer site that it can do more harm than good if something goes wrong during the process? Any tips on how to update the BIOS on predator 15?

In my experience, it's better to do it as soon as you can after starting up a new laptop.

There really shouldn't be any threat of legitimate harm happening from a standard BIOS upgrade, barring a power outage while you are flashing it or something.

I've been using my laptop for almost 3 months now can I go update my BIOS or factory restore my laptop then update my BIOS?

You can update your BIOS without doing a factory restore first. The BIOS is just an executable and I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a PC fail while properly doing an update. The process of updating the BIOS now a days is way more safe and secure vs all the horror stories we heard about years ago.

It would be prudent to back up your data before doing so as if a failure occured (power failure), it would require service to help get that issue resolved.

    Thanks,
