X34 flicker then image retention

I have the Freesynbc version, but am wondering if anyone with either version has had this same issue (before I go through the hassle of returning this monitor for service). I've had my monitor for about 4 months. It works perfectly in normal Windows applications. When playing a demanding game, such as Witcher 3, it starts fine but after a while the screen starts flickering. I get the whole 1cm flicker at the top, but eventually the whole screen will flicker. If I pause the game (leaving the pause menu on the screen) for maybe 5 minutes this will happen every time. I've heard other people with similar issues, but here's where my experience is a bit differnet.

When I quit the game and go back to Windows, the flickering continues for a while, maybe 10 minutes. In addition to this, I have image retention, elements from the game menu remain on the screen. The image below was taken after I quit Witcher, shut down windows and unplugged power to both the monitor and my PC for about 15 seconds then rebooted. Look above and to the left of the Windows pointer and you can see a faint game arrow from Witcher. Go up at a 45 degree angle and you'll see a question mark from the Witcher Map screen. At the top is a row of icons from the game. This happened after maybe 5 minutes paused in the game. I leave my screen on continuously without a screen saver and have had zero image retention from anything else. Weird. Before I send this in I was hoping to see if anyone else had this issue and if sending the screen in for repair/replacement fixed it? I use this PC for work too so I'm really not happy about losing my monitor for a month, but if it will fix it I'll do it. I'm worrried that maybe this problem is endemic to this display somehow. Any comments? Thanks.
