Iconia W4-820 reset password

Hi All,

 

First post looking for support with an Acer product, hopefully some knowledgeable people can chime in...

 

I have an Iconia W4 tablet with windows 8 and I have forgotten the password. 

 

I can get into the windows menus for reset etc by holding windows button and power button, but the only option that doesn't ask for a password says insert your recovery media to continue - I don't have any such media.

 

I can also get into the BIOS by holding volume and power buttons and have got options to change things like boot order and secure boot settings, but I haven't been able to achieve anything that results in anything other than the windows splash screen which asks for a password on boot.

 

Any advice or avenues I could go down? I have no problem losing data that may be on the tablet and starting afresh. 

 

As for tools available, I do have a Windows 7 laptop (with no disc drive!) and an older laptop running ubuntu that can read the acer supplied recovery disc - so haven't been able to progress anything using the supplied recovery disc.

There are tools out there (which we don't discuss) that allow you to reset a Windows password. They pretty much all require that you boot from an external drive. You would need an adapter to your USB port to allow a standard thumb drive or external DVD drive to connect. If you use an external DVD drive it either needs it's own power or it needs to be plugged into an external USB hub that has it's own power. To boot from an external drive you might need to play with the secure boot settings in the BIOS in order to disable signature checking.
