Does Acer X34 work properly with PS4?

Hi all,

I have had a Predator X34 (G-Sync variant) since it launched here in the UK to use for my PC and other future devicess, and only recently I got a PS4 to play some of the upcoming exclusives.

So after setting the PS4 up, it immediately became clear to me the image on the monitor is a bit fatter than usual. Basically, PS4 works on X34, but whereas a normal 16:9 stretches almost 60cm wide on this screen, with PS4 it goes all the way to more than 67cm wide, which literally makes everything look annoyingly wider and uglier.

Changing the monitor setting to 1:1 makes the viewable screen super small (equivalent to around 14-inch screen!), and I practically found zero option to make it look like a normal 16:9, and I am convinced the X34 (all of them) have a buggy firmware that doesn't scale properly with PS4.

Acer X34 is the only screen I own so things like TV is not an option to me, hence I really hope someone here has figured a way out to setup a PS4 on this monitor properly, because I cannot express how incredibly disappointed I am by this.

Any input from you guys will be greatly appreciated.

It's impossible to fix since it's a manufactiring defect.

These monitors cost more than some 55 4K OLED TVs and yet Acer hasn't taken the time to properly test the HDMI slots functionality. Not to mention these monitors are not even software upgradable, which is a feature that most £200 TVs have nowadays.

There should have been a refund for such a glaring issue, but unfortunately since not too many people own these monitros (and even less people seem to care about the HDMI ports), Acer has been able to get away with this.

I take this monitor for ps4 too and now i an only play with blurry games only because Acer dont' want to upgrade his software? :-(

Okey one thing, since your monitor is 16:9, I am not sure the scaling issue with Predator X34 should be present in your case.

What happens exactly when you connect your PS4 to this monitor through the HDMI port? Does it not scale 1:1 to fill the entire screen?

Edit: It appears the issue in your case is that you will not be able to use the 4K capability with a PS4 Pro. Basically the HDMI 1.4 is the limitation and there's no workaround for that at all.

In the case of X34, it's actually just a software issue, but these incredibily 'cheap' monitors are somehow not firmware upgradble.

The problem is not the 4k (maybe it can be fixed by Sony :-/ with an Os upgrade, because hdmi 1.4 can manage 4k in 30hz)

My problem is that the games are "blurry" in 1080p.

I tryed to put the monitor in 1:1 mode mode it show a small image.

I'm thinking to take a new tv now ... :-(

Unfortunately, I don't think there's a single G-Sync enabled monitor with HDMI 2.

Nvidia is notorious for making their propriety hardware and software incompatible with other common standards, and just like Apple, they get away with everything because they are the market leader.

Regarding your PS4, Sony might possibly add 4k@30Hz mode for those with HDMI 1.4 capable TVs and monitors, but personally I think the likelihood of that is not very high, so your best bet is to get a TV if you play on consoles very frequently.

In this day and age, modern TVs provide far better value for gaming than gaming monitors, especially with LGs 3D 4K TVs, as they allow you to emulate a far larger ultrawide screen, play 3D Vision games at full 1080p per eye, and provide you with all the latest standards such as HDR.

I wish I could be of more help darksylph86, but unfortunately, I guess all of us had to learn the hard way how terrible these monitors are for anything except a powerful PC.
