I'm planning to sell my tablet to my son, so I started a system reset. Not sure exactly what happened, though I may have selected the return to a previous version of Windows. Now the device will not boot...after flashing the Acer screen, it goes blank.
I have tried several things:
1. Tried installing a USB that (I believe) has both 32 and 64 bit Windows 10, downloaded with Microsoft Media Creation Tool. No joy.
2. Created a fresh USB with Media Creation Tool. No joy, again.
3. I've tried several repair options using these tools. A couple of times I have reached the point where Windows complains it can't boot and offers advanced options. When I finally reach the point where I can boot from the USB drive and receive a screen that offers to install Windows, the touch screen becomes entirely unresponsive so I can't choose the option to continue with the install.
4. I have attempted to boot from the Windows 8.1 recovery DVD I received with the device. The DVD spins and I can hear and feel the head seeking, but the Acer logo remains on the screen and finally goes blank.
Late last night I made an ISO of the recovery DVD and used Rufus to make a bootable USB of it, but by then it was too late to try it, so it will have to wait until this evening when I get home from work.
I've installed and reinstalled Windows 10 a couple of times on this tablet (it's been something of a testbed/experimental device for me) and never had a problem remotely like this.
Is there anything else I can try, or something I'm missing? Is it possible to try to boot from the SD card slot (I don't see that option in the boot options).
