When are you going to patch stagefright for A1-840fhd?

It is bad enough you continue to sell this tablet new with an operating system 3 versions out of date. And I am an ***** for buying it. But this version, android 4.4.2,  has serious security issues with stagefright that you have not issued a patch for and continue to sell KNOWING that the android version you provide is broken and insecure. When are you going to update this tablet or issue a security fix for stagefright?

Just like it says. Stagefright patches were available in October 2015. I bought this tablet in July 2015, only 8 months ago. I expect support. Why is there no stagefright patch? Every other reputable company has patched their Android devices. EXCEPT YOU.  Acer this device ID less than a year old, I EXPECT SUPPORT.

Also for the A840. Needs a patch. Could use an upgrade to Android 5.0 (at least) but certainly a security patch.

    All,

The A1-840 and A1-840FHD are not scheduled for any software updates. You can protect yourself against stagefright by disabling the Auto-retrieve that is available under the Multimedia Settings.

That sounds nice Corey and thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately within the last month, there have been demonstrated instances where the Stagefright exploit can be initiated from requests for video on webpages.

So you are correct that you should turn off autoload of mms, but this in insufficient in light of the evidence that people are exploiting this from within a website.

It is most unfortunate that Acer has abandoned this device and left me with an unsupported vulnerable tablet. Again I repeat that it is unacceptable for Acer to not provide security updates.  ASUS and Samsung provided stagefright security updates (not OS updates, just security patches) to all their tablets.

I repeat that this will be the last Acer I purchase and will likely be relegated to a young nephew because I can no longer trust the secuity of this device for anything else.

    Hi Cory,

Thanks for the reply, but I'm hugely bothered by the content of the reply.

Do I understand correctly that Acer's proposed solution to a known software security patch is "try not to be too vulnerable to that" and the proposed solution to all potential future security problems is "tough"?  Really?

To double check...when you say that they're not scheduled for updates, does that mean they will never get updates?

May 2016 and still no patch for the 840-fhd for stagefright vulnerability. Asus, Samsung,Lenovo, all seem to be able toto have patched stagefright. Just not Acer. Guess what?????? I bought a new laptop yesterday. Wanna guess what kind I didn't buy?  Correct, I didn't buy an Acer. I bought a Dell because they actually support their products. I also bought a new tablet to replace this 840-fhd that you, Acer, denied support to for a known vulnerability. I bought a Samsung because they too supported their users. I do not buy from companies that to not support the products they sell. Not patching a serious android exploit and vulnerability is unconscionable. Bye Bye now.
