How do I transfer files from PC to tablet?

Hi all, I have some Mp3 files on my PC which I need to get over to my tablet, but when connecting via usb my PC does not recognise my Tablet 8 w. Any ideas please

Easiest by far is to copy them over the network. I both devices are in the same homegroup you can just copy, if they are not you will likely just have to provide credentials before copying.

Just to explain why this didn't work, USB ports weren't originally intended for connections between computers (peer-to-peer), so those connections aren't recognized the way connections to peripherals like iPads, printers, etc., are.  The simple solution to transfer media files like you're doing is to use external memory:  online/network storage, or an SD or micro-SD (= TF) card, if your tablet has card slots, or a thumb drive or other USB memory (if your tablet only has a micro-USB port, instead of a full-sized USB port, as most do, you will need an adapter to plug a standard USB plug into the micro-USB socket/port -- these (short) male-micro-USB-to-female-standard-USB adapter cables are often called OTG cables, for no technical reason, but there's nothing special about the ones that use that name, and nothing fancy going on in the cable).

 

Since I already wrote this before re-reading your question  -- for bigger transfers, like an OS, Windows 7 has a Microsoft program called "Windows Easy Transfer" (Using Windows Easy Transfer) that's supposed to use an "EasyTransfer cable" but I don't know if it exists in Windows 10 or if a regular USB cable will work.  It might be possible to set up an ad-hoc network connection over the USB cable that you already have.  If one were curious, one might look at this Google-search result:  PC File transfer
