I'm using my laptop for heavy multitasking and sometimes programming. Most of the time I always completely use up my 8GB of RAM. I tore down the laptop within the first hour of purchase and I can only find 2 slots (1 free slot, 1 slot with an 8GB stick).
I'm planning to upgrade this to 16GB but I'm having doubts since:
1. I tried attaching an additional 4GB from another laptop (different freq, still DDR3). It booted, CPU-Z can detect the additional RAM but the system isn't using it (still on 8GB).
- I tried to use only the 4GB stick and I think it's incompatible since the system won't boot.
2. I used Crucial's memory upgrade checker and there's a small footnote that says "*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory." All of the options there did not exceed 8GB.
Will adding another 8GB work? If not, how do I bypass the 8GB limit using an easy way? (I don't mind modding the BIOS).
