Microsoft replaced my Win8 with Win10 when 10 was released. Now I'm getting black screens in IE and Windows Live Mail, unwanted pop ups and "not responding" messages. I have a 5-year old Acer Aspire desktop AX1301-U1302. Please advise. Thanks.

Couldn't hurt to start by downloading and running Malwarebytes Free and see what it finds.

    https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

After that open a command prompt as administrator and copy/paste this command:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

It may take a while and seem like it's stuck on 20%, but give it time.

Let me know how that goes.

The replacement of my Windows 8.1 by Windows 10 and needing to go back to a clean install of Windows 8.0 again also caused me to have trouble with my WIFI becoming disabled. Since I've moved back to Win 8.1 again, I've been connecting to my router via ethernet cable until I came up with trying something after reading from numerous avenues on the internet.

This is what seems to make my Acer Aspire desktop U5-610 All-in-One WIFI work again:

    1)Enter the Control Panel

    2)Go to Action Center

3)Select "Windows Program Compatibility Troubleshooter" in the bottom left corner

4)Select "Not Listed" to allow browsing for the program file

    5)When browsing, go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Qualcomm Atheros\Bluetooth Suite

6)Select the application "ActivateDesktop" for compatibility issues

After I notified Win 8.1 to execute "ActivateDesktop" with compatibility, the list of WIFI signals in my neighborhood immediately appeared. I told windows to save that setting and the WIFI problem has been solved so far.
