I'm currently looking to replace the HDD that came with my laptop. It currently uses a WD Scorpio Blue 320GB WD3200BPVT-22ZEST0, and im looking to replace it with a larger drive, specifically http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236873 or http://www.amazon.com/Black-750GB-Performance-Mobile-Drive/dp/B00DSUTX3O/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t They both should be compatible but I am unsure wether my laptop's BIOS supports a larger drive. I currently run the latest BIOS available 1.30, and the laptop model is Aspire 5742z-4629. Any help is appreciated, Thank you.

    Hello,

The Aspire 5742Z is/was shipped with HDDs of 320, 500, 640 or 750Gb and with the same motherboard.

Here are the original HDDs of 750Gb:

    Hey there ChorizoConWebo Smiley Happy

As long as a drive uses the SATA connection it should work fine on your laptop. Depending on your budget you can go with a lower rpm HDD, higher rpm HDD, Hybrid drive, Dual drive or a pure SSD. EAch of them have pros and cons.
I could suggest checking out what WD can offer as solutions and see if it fits your needs and budget:
    WD Blue: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=YDBRFf
    WD Blue SSHD: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=j8aAQO
    WD Black: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=hsGn3y
    WD Black2: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=xmm21P

It may be a good idea to double check with Acer's support if the drive that you have chosen is compatible with your laptop. Smiley Happy

Feel free to ask if you need more info on any of these drives or happen to have questions!
