I have an Aspire one ZG5 that won't operate with the WIFI card installed, any ideas?

I have an older Aspire one ZG5 that froze up while I was online.  It took several days of trial and error before I finally discovered the cause.  I'm now trying to find the "root cause" because my simple fix did not help.

When the machine froze up I ended up doing a hard restart, only it wouldn't restart.  It wouldn't even enter the BIOS process.  Nothing but a black screen.  The battery and power lights were on but nothing happens.  To shorten the story up I'll jump ahead.

As long as the WIFI card is in the socket the machine is dead.  No attempt to boot or do anything.  As soon as I pull the card out the machine boots and runs fine.  If I put the card in after the machine is started everything freezes again but continues on when I pull the card.

I bought a replacement card but the problem persists.  Right now I'm having to tether the Aspire to my phone to get internet.  It's workable but a slight inconvienence.

I did flash the BIOS but that hasn't helped.  It seemed like it probably isn't the BIOS so much as a possible hardware failure.

Any suggestions on what might be causing the machine to fail with the WIFI card in place?

can be a shortcut on pci-ex slot or an hardware issue on controller, very hard to narrow to be honest.

as workaround i can suggest a wifi USB dongle if you have an USB port available.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
