'SeaTools for DOS' freezes when running 'Long Test' on Seagate HDD - what to do?

I have some bad sectors on the HDD of my v3-571G (standard Seagate 500GB ST500LT012-9WS142).

The Seagate website advised to run 'SeaTools for DOS'.

I finally got the tool running by changing in BIOS the SATA Mode from AHCI to IDE.

However .. SeaTools seems to be hanging when running the 'Long Test' (that might repair/move/mark the bad sectors).

I tried the Short Test, and the same result for that.

Does anyone have a suggestion what to do to get it running?

    backup all your data.

by the way, searching on google, it seems that freezing is a know issue when an HDD has too much bad sectors.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
