acer Z530 Apps unable to use read/write data on SD card

With the last system update a number of apps became unable to use the SD card to store their data.

Examples:
Acer NAV - The initialization download files (a 23 MB zip that got to /ttndata if I remember correctly) stopped being recognized in the SD card and asked to be downloaded again (going to internal storage)

Super Backup (com.idea.backup.smscontacts) - after browsing to an SD card path it shows the SD as "null/" in the path textual form. Then the app is unable to access the contents of the folder (yet the app is compliant to the Lollipop way of accessing data)

KeepassDoid (com.android.keepass) - unable to select/open a database if stored on the SD card. The app is also Lollipop compatible and requested the right to access the SD card upon installation.

The problem I'm stating is not the same as the thread http://community.acer.com/t5/Android-Phones/acer-liquid-Z530-can-no-longer-move-apps-to-SD-card/td-p/405467 . It's about data, not the app itself. The root cause might be related, though, and hopefuly solved in the same fix.
