AXC-605 (UR2A) Desktop Memory Upgrade

Hello,

I have an ACER AXC-605-UR2A small form factor desktop computer and I am wanting to upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB

Can someone steer me in the right direction with what type of memory that I need to purchase.

Can I just install an additional 4GB Memory into the slot by a different manufacturer or do I need to buy 2 new from the same manufacturer. 4GB x 2  for a total of 8GB

Also....I've read a couple of forums that state the memory needs to be DDR3vs DDR3 because of the confined space?  Any validity to this??

Thanks in advance!

    Hello Steve,

    Aspire XC-605 supports up to 16Gb - DDR3L - 1600MHz (2x8Gb - OS 64-bit)

Your desktop owns 2 memory slots. You have actually only one memory module of 4Gb.

You can find the brand part number of the actual memory module with HWINFO portable version (no installation). I suggest you to buy the same part or two new parts of 4Gb.

    1. Original memory modules:

    Spoiler
    KN.4GB07.006DIMM.4GB.DDR3L-1600.KIN
    KN.4GB07.009DIMM.4GB.DDR3L-1600.KIN
    KN.4GB07.015DIMM.4GB.DDR3L.1600.KIN
    KN.4GB0G.022DIMM.4GB.DDR3L-1600.HYN

    2. Compatible memory modules:

        Kingston

Hello, Your system has Multi color DIMM slots that can use any combo of Ram upto 16GB.. However here is a Table of known Ram configuration that works with the XC-605. So if you choose to use your installed Ram of 4GB and say add another 8GB for 12GB total it can be done...

    Size DIMM1 DIMM2

     2G     2G   Empty

    4G      2G     2G

    4G      4G   Empty

    6G      2G     4G

    8G      4G     4G

    8G      8G   Empty

    10G    2G     8G

    12G    4G     8G

    16G    8G     8G

    Hope this helps some

    James

    Edit:

Controller Integrated in the Intel Lynx Point H81

Chipset Number of DIMM slot 2 Maximum memory 16 GB (using two 8 GB modules)

    Data rate 1066/1333/1600 MT/s

    Supported capacities 2, 4 or 8 GB

    DIMM type 240-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM

    Supported brands Kingston, Hynix

I am not 100% sure. But from the data I found it says DDR3... May want to double check with the Ram you have installed now... If it is DDR3L then get DDR3L however if DDR3 as it should be from the data I have. Stay with DDR3.... Also known Supported Brands is Kingston and Hynix... To be safe I would stay with them brands as well..

    Thanks for the reply...

so I ran the HWINFO portable version and this is what it gave me as far as my existing RAM goes...

    DDR3-1600 / PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM UDIMM      installed

    KINGSTON

    ACR16D3LU1KFG/4G

    ECC: NO

    SIZE 4GB

    CLOCK 800MHZ

So would if it was DDR3L...would it mention the difference in the scan?

Also in regards to clock speed...is 1600mhz the max for all of the memory or is it the max per memory stick?

Is the existing memory ok?  or would you recommend just purchasing new...(possibly HYNIX OR KINGSTON)

    Thanks again for your help!

Edit. It is 3L ram DDR3L, It can run both DDR3 1.5V Ram and the DDR3L 1.35V ram as that one is 3L I was wrong in my first post. As the Part Number says it is 3L... However looking up the Ram it says even in the part numbers that were posted on the list before me. Show only DDR3 Ram in the listing..

Also if you wanted to just add Ram right now to your sytem but ddin't want to buy 2 new sticks of 8 to get you to 16 you could for right now buy one say of the Kingston Ram install it and use the 12gb. Then when you felt you wanted to or had the extra money get the other 8 and then you would have max... It is up to what you want to do at this time. IF you can afford to buy both now. I would then you only have to take your system apart once.. If you don't mind taking your system apart then you could do it as you please...

If you are going to take it in and have a Shop do the install for you, I would say then buy both 8gb Ram now. Same amount of time for install, So in the end it would be cheaper to do it all at one time....
