5517 not recognizing memory addition

Upgraded memory from 2GB to 4GB and the computer only acknowledges one of the memory sticks. Shows 2.0 GB installed and 1.75 GB usable. Would a refresh of the BIOS help make the missing memory show up? And if so,how would I do that?
Any other ideas?

Did you make sure the Voltage and Type of Ram is correct? You don't have to have matched pairs.... 1.8V Both. 667 or 800Mhz Both should match the same speeds.

Then Most important to note, A 64-bit operating system is required to enjoy the ultimate performance of 4 GB memory

Also even with the Max of 4 gb of ram your system shares with your Video and can be reduced with what is shares so it wouldn't show all 4gb of ram as total.... Here is a list of some Combos that have been used and tested.

    Slot 1   Slot 2         Total

    0MB     512MB        512MB

    0MB     1024MB      1024MB

    0MB     2048MB      2048MB

    512MB  512MB       1024MB

    512MB  1024MB      1536MB

    512MB   2048MB     2560MB

    1024MB  0MB         1024MB

    1024MB  512MB      1536MB

    1024MB  1024MB    2048MB

    1024MB  2048MB    3072MB

    2048MB  0MB         2048MB

    2048MB  512MB      2560MB

    2048MB 1024MB     3072MB

    2048MB 2048MB     4096MB

    Hope this helps some
