RAID 1 Setup on: Acer Aspire AM3970-UR14P

I recently just purchased an Acer Aspire AM3970-UR14P. I am looking to set-up a RAID 1 hardware backup on this computer to make sure things don't get lost (this computer is for my mother, so I want to minimize any computing experience she may encounter) .

 

I have purchased a second HD (A 1TB WD Green drive), I will be using the 1TB WD as her main, and will be wiping the 5400rpm stock drive and using it as her backup. 

 

Does anyone know if the motherboards that come with these computers are programmed to support a RAID 1 system? 

 

If it is a definite "no", then I will either have to look into a RAID controller or use a more standard software based backup in windows 7.

It sounds like you have the answer well in hand and already have deduced that the system does not ship with a RAID controller.

 

Adding a RAID controller or using other software to backup the system would both work, depending on the amount of time you wish to invest in setting up and then maintaining the system.
