New page appeared on Iconia B3-A20 after updating- what is it?

Hi there,

I've just received a gorgeous and shiny Acer Iconia one 10 B3-A20 for Christmas, and I love it to bits, but I've found a puzzling thing. It requested a system update, so I let it perform it for the sake of stability, but now an extra page has appeared. It says 'headlines' at the top and carries an advert for Acer products on it. To the right hand side, there is a weather forecast symbol, along with the location and temperature.

Whatever this thing is, I've checked the settings and it seems to serve no function that I am in need of. Since I like to keep my devices running as efficiently as possible, can someone tell me a) What this screen is, and b) If it's possible to get rid of it outside of a rootkit?

Many thanks.

Thanks for your reply, BIllsey. I think you're right, it cannot be disabled. Since it's not really useful to me and it was bugging me (I'm one of those people who like my gadgets to run only what I tell them to!), I've switched to using the Nova launcher, which has given me a far more streamlined interface that is more useful to me personally.

Probably those are new applications/widgets added by Acer, normally you can delete them long pressing the icon and then move it to the top (remove option).

you also disable them (so you don't need to download updates or have it running in background):

    settings/apps - ALL tab

tap the application you wanto to disable and tap on disable

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Unfortunately,  it won't delete at all.  I've configured the rest of the tablet, adding and removing the widgets I need,  but this page just won't budge.  I suspect it's hard coded into the Acer home launcher.  It's very odd though, since I can find no mention of it anywhere online and it was definitely part of the system upgrade that performed adverts I got the system set up.

My Galaxy S5 calls that screen 'My Magazine' and I believe it's powered by Flipboard. Part of the core OS and it can be disabled but not removed.

You can get rid of it. I got the same tablet and if you hold a blank area on your homepage then you will be presented with some options for your pages.click settings then turn off left page
