HAS ANYONE PURCHASED THE ACER G6 PREDATOR?

pUCHASED G6 predator as present for my son. The computer functioed for approximately 3 days and died. Two highly qualified local technicians indicated that the motherboard was probably fried. Knowing very little about the inner workings of a computer, I ask how this could happen. The techs indicated that in their expert opinion that the majority of the parts, with the exception of the graphics cars were inferior as to their ability to control the heat generated by the graphics cars. The computer was designed poorly and could not coll properly. Please do not buy any ACER gaming computers. Their (ACER) apparently rushed these computers into production and were not subject to the due diligence most reputable companies perform

I'll bet my bottom dollar the "experts" that looked at it are hacks (as most local shops are). Simple answer, you got a lemon, and that happens sadly. EVERY mass produced product on the planet has these issues, most work, some don't. Such is the way of life.

Of course this comment was made a month ago so I don't know what you did with it, but a simple call to support to have it sent in and repaired is usually all that is needed. Sure the waiting isn't fun but it's not a huge deal. All of the parts are fine, even though it's a made for the case motherboard, it's running the same chipsets as most "high end" motherboard brands.

As for the cooling? It's fine, even when I crank everything up the system stays well within acceptable levels. I build PC's for a living, and I always build my own, but I decided what the heck because I love the case and got a pretty good deal. I really like the PC and it works just fine.

Sorry you got a lemon, but a fried out mobo sounds like a very quick "pc tech didn't really want to look at it, so he throws out a fried part comment and takes your money" type of situation. Sure, motherboards can be bad but it's few and far between. Anyways, hope you got a new one or whatever. Take care.

I'm sorry that you're having problems, especially on a brand new unit. I don't believe that any can say with any real certainty that the MB fried BECAUSE of the components and their ability to handle the heat. Along the lines of Nickpeck40's comments. Local technicians are generally asked for reasons why things fail, and a lot of consumers just don't take "we don't know exactly" as response. The thing with electronics is that really just work, or they don't, so if something is going to fail, it's usually happens pretty quick.

Our support team is available, and this type of failure is what you're warranty is for. We can get this fixed quickly and you shouldn't have problems again. Of course, as a consumer myself, I understand that your retailer might provide a better option.
