Will there be any sort of patch or fix for the sd card rw issues?

Or else it's forcing users to limit there applications and making it an obligation for us to root our devices to have full use of it.

    i don't think it will ever be released a patch like that; the SD rw limitation was from Google; other producers by-passed this but breaking google law.

    So i guess your saying they probably won't release a 5.0 update and unless we root (breaking google law) there's no reason to keep a tablet which doesn't allow to fully use a 128gb sd card. It's a shame since i do like the tablet and it works great but shame that acer doesn't keep it up to date, and im running out of internal space due to apps.

    Not saying this, since i don't know if they will update to 5.0 but....reality is no so far from your guess.

    sorry to butt in to the convo, but I have to say that i cannot find a gizmo to save from device to sd inserted card. never heard of 128gig card, sounds like you download a stack of high-end pixies to require this much gig!

    You read incorrectly, the acer allows a capacity of 128gb sd card. My tab has about 16 but only 8gb usable (due to acer bloatware). Which means 10 games pretty much uses all the internal memory and with out "rw" to sd card, this tablet cannot make full use of the sd card.

    Example - Hearthstone is about 2 gigs  and star wars : uprising is about 3gb.

    The only method i know you can transfer files to sd card by using a file manager, but it only allows to store files.

    Ex. music, pictures, movies and such. It does not allow you to move apps to "rw" off of the extermal sd card.

    A simple firmware update adding 2 lines to permissions would solve this issue, but for us purchasers... it would require us to root our devices to enable this option.

    I have a 128GB card in mine that's over 80% full. I just use it for music, videos, books and the like.

    "A simple firmware update adding 2 lines to permissions would solve this issue" just shows me you haven't ever written software of any complexity. Smiley Happy

    My point exactly only able to be used for storing music,movies, pictures and books which is what i use a pc for (does not help with large extensive apps). This is due to the read me only factor in the permissions. As for the proof of adding line to permissions, android is linux and linux uses r/w/rw permissions and a simple google would of showed you that enabling this would fix kit kat issues which acer is more then capable of.

    <permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
    <group gid="sdcard_r" />
    <group gid="sdcard_rw" />
    <group gid="media_rw" /> <-- this needs to be added
    </permission>
    <permission name="android.permission.WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE" >
    <group gid="sdcard_rw" /> <-- this needs to be added
    <group gid="media_rw" />
    </permission>

    Also what does writing software have to do with anything? Considering acer didn't create the software either...

    Yes, that's true but Acer wouldn't break Google policy about microSD.

    Is it really breaking the policy if google already re-modified that permission in all the future releases? But anyways if they refuse to change a simple persmission they could just focus of pushing out the more updated OS to this tablet. All their other tablets which are no were near as performant as this one is or already has had the 5.0 update.

    Non of the less thanks for the input
