How to upgrade to 8GB on Aspire XC-603 UR15

I purchased a 4GB memory module from Crucial to add to the 4GB supplied with my XC-603 UR15 desktop. When I installed it, no video signal is generated by the video port. Removing the new module restores normal operation. I tested the new module by substituting it for the one supplied with the computer (tested good).

There are two possibilities:

1. There is a defect in the 2nd memory module connector.

2. The on-board video is mapped to a fixed location and is conflicting with the added memory module.

Since video vanishes with the new module in place, the 2nd possibility is more likely. Is there a BIOS setting that needs to be made or is there a defect in the system board? Comments.

Is the new ram running at the same speed? Dual channel? You should always buy ram in matching pairs, and i mean EXACTLY the same speed, frequency etc. PC's are very fussy about that. Do you get a certain number of "BEEPS" during the p.o.s.t.? (Power On Self Test) when you turn the computer on? You may have a parity error.

When I did my Ram upgrade to 8 gig I wanted to avoid this problem so I bought 2 Kingstron 4gb stircks... It is more likely that your Timing on the new ram isn't the same as the old. Also mix match ram isn't a good idea on most systems as they try and conflict...
