G9 791-75PV - Bad performance and BSODs

I just started with this notebook 2 days ago. There were too many bugs with the default installation from Acer (Bluescreens with different software like Bitdefender, VMware Player 7.1.3, Acronis) and system was completely destroyed after VMware install (kernel-security-check-failure), so I decided to empty the very slow Liteon M2 SSD.

After new install I just got one bluescreen from the graphics driver. Just saw the graphics driver was resetted and then I lost Teamviewer connection (because I did install from work Smiley Happy ).

Alltogether it's a really nice notebook. Worst things for me is the low performance of the SSD, which seems to be a real bottleneck here. I had the G751JT from ASUS before and it was a real rocket (regarding the storage performance) with its Sandisc Sata SSD (550/530).

Now my old V3-771G is booting the virtual machines on its old Vertex4 (more than 4 years old>) faster than the Predator notebook. Very impressive is here, the super slomo of the Predator, when unpacking Zip files. The V3 seems to be up to 10 times faster.

The processor is compared to the I7 4720HQ of the Asus only 10 points faster in Cinebench R15 for e.g..

I heard about other new notebooks with skylake, with the same poor performance. Maybe it will be fixed, maybe not?

I just tried a game for some minutes (FC4). There was a immense tearing on the screen.

Does anybody has the same experience? I was looking for a solution and found some hints, that it could be a defective RAM also?

Update:

found some solutions like diabling the intel HD Graphics. It feels quite normal now. Not laggy any more.  Some BSODs are gone by not using certain software.

Problems left at this time. Poor storage performance. Display Driver resets while playing. I know such problems from my son's GTX 780ti, which is just al litte bit to overclocked. But I never did downclocking with a notebook.

Maybe some one knows? Or is it a bit to early for Acer forum?

Ah, okay, I forgot, Acer Support wants me to RMA.

  • After downclocking the system seems to be stable now. I used MSI Afterburner. I've just to find out, what the minimum is.

Hope it will be fixed by the next EFI-Bios????

  • All wrong. Graphcs driver reset is caused by automatik Update via Windows 10 of Realtek Audio Driver, which is highly incompatibel with the Nvida driver. Disabling is of the feature is obliged.

So after disabling TPM in Bios, it will be a real x-mas?

  • I was really happy to find a new Bios today, hoping that it could fix something. As it's described to solve problems of enterering Bios (Efi-Bios) I'm not any more able to enter Bios at all. I also cannot

Enter the Boot device priority. The Ethernet Interface and the HDMI Port have stopped working.

No improvement, just the way round.  I will not be albe to restore, if the next bluescreen orgy destroys OS again.

Someone should be punished for that!

  • After accessing Bios via Win10, I could load factory defaults. After that the Lan Interface appears again in device manager, but it still does not work. But I set DVD as boot device, so maybe I've got a chance, if system is failijng again.

    I'm the only beta-tester here?

  • All Bluescreens where gone, after switsching off the system completely the Bios update worked. But one Bluescreen is left. "Video TDR failure" and restart. I'm happy that my reseller is very nice with me and they change against the bigger model with the GTX980M against paying the difference. I'm looking forward, not having any more problems than.
  • Hi,

I got the exchange yesterday. Synthetic benchmarks are about 10 perscent higher. I put the old backup image and it runs without any error now. The guys in the store wanted to tell me, that it has been a software error with the Video TDR Failure Buescreen. So I had to pay another 300.-

Today I'm going to test the 950 Pro Samsung. Maybe it's what I waited for with a competitive storage.

    I end here with conclusion:

It performs nice during gaming. It's a little bit louder than ASUS G751-JT because of a higher frequence of the fans. The chassis is very nice and I don't have so strange finger prints. The only thing here: I don't like is the keyboard. One letter sounds already like hafl dead. The external Monitor has its problems on HDMI. But alltogether it's really nice. It shouldn be so expensive.

    cheers

  • I got the Samsung 950Pro running, but it's not discovered by the Bios at all. I migrated the installation from the Liteon SSD and after running in Safe Mode, it booted to the desktop. Even the Intel Storage Manager dosn't discover the ssd. But it works for the moment. It's not so impressive, as I thougt. It has the usual reading performance. I didn't find a tool which runs the benchmak for wirte performance yet. I hope Acer will release a compability Bios Updarte in near future. Updating the Samsnung would not be possible at the moment. steve
