VN7-591G Touchpad problem

I recently purchased this laptop and I have to say i'm shocked at how bad the touchpad is on Windows 10.

The main problem is that the touchpad is a Synaptics 'precision' pad and the driver does not add an additional tab to the mouse properties app in control panel, you are stuck with native Windows 10 controls.

The Windows 10 options are pretty sparse and concentrate on turning off/on gesture features, most crucially they do not offer sensitivity adjustment.

The default unadjustable sensitivity level is too low causing the cursor to constistantly fail to register any initial movement on the pad. It's only around 0.5cm but it's enough to drive you crazy.

I don't believe it's down to an incorrect driver or other software, I am aware of the realtek issue, and the driver needing to be force installed over the top of the default HID driver. I have done a lot of reading and ruled these things out. The driver is on there and I have tried a number of different versions including both listed on the acer site, the latest from the synaptics site and a number of in between.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I completely agree, including the part about not having driver options to customize the touchpad operation.

People ordering this model in 2014 reported this touchpad problem.

I received this VN7 in 2015, I had same problem.

I tested many different Acer at stores, they had this touchpad problem.

The result for me : report the problem, ship back and forth to Warranty Dept. 3 times, then Temple / TX office phone you. Ask for refund. That's it.

- all shipping is no cost to customer.

- the whole ordeal took 3 months.

- Acer will try to offer you another model, but a lot of them also has touchpad problem.

huudungle - thanks for the data points. Do any of the ones you have tries have a tab in the driver properties that let you set the normal Synaptics settings? Is that always missing on Win 10? (I think I saw a comment to that effect at one point)

As much as I wish the touchpad situation would improve (it seems like it should be a simple fix like drivers), what I *really* wish is that they would fix the WiFi problems. I got a VN7-791G two weeks ago and the WiFi is unusable on it (and for a guy that works for one of the main network companies, that's a really big problem for me). :-( Seems like everyone complains about those two issues on the Aspires... bummer they don't fix them because other than that it's a terrific machine!
