Windows 10 issues 5750-9851

Howdy;

I installed Win 10 on my laptop last night.  Everything is original with my laptop other than having an SSD drive rather than original drive.

The upgrade went pretty well, with a handful of annoying software problems, mostly with 32 bit software (Such as Word 2003).

But my biggest issue is the lack of notification of battery power in the Tray or the ability for the computer to warn me of low battery power or the ability of the computer to hibernate if power gets too low.

All these features seem related.  I Googled the problem with little success at resolving.  I don't see any updates by Acer that are for Windows 10 in the support area for my model.

The power choice in the System Notification settings (on switch) is grayed out.

My SND number is 11932781016

    Well, I think I got lucky in a tip from tenforums.com.  Essentially you go into Device Manager.  Click "Scan for Hardware Changes".  And voila, the battery notify icon appeared.  Now I need to see if it warns me at low power and if it saves my settings at low power or does a fast power off, as it has been doing.

    I think you should post the problem as a new one and maybe someone has a solution for repairing it.  My suggestion would be, at least, to go to the Aspire Support area and try to get a replacement Windows 8.1 driver for your model.

    Hmmm, well, shoot, this worked for several reboots, but on another one, it quit working.  I had to go back to device manager and again scan for hardware changes.  Then it appeared again.

    Still an issue periodically. Battery indicator is there most of the time, but spontaneously disappears on a wakeful or restart after so many times. PITA

    I found a thread about a bandaid to this problem by creating a batch file to run devcon.exe renew command line from "Startup" of Win 10 and that is an ok workaround for now.  I also read where that older Acer laptop had a Bios upgrade that resolved the problem.  Which leads me to believe now I need a Bios upgrade.

    Another problem I noticed is that Win 10 is draining my battery faster (by about a third) than on Win 7.  I think it's because Win 10 has more of an App mindset and probably has more overhead.  My use of the laptop is no different than on Win 7.

    In general, do I feel like, "Woo Hoo.  This is so much better and what I've been waiting for."  Or, "Er, ok, wup de doo, some kinda cool apps, and some features are neat (I don't usually use that word).   I would have to go with the latter. So I may simply revert back to Win 7.  Glad I did upgrade my wife's laptop yet.
