Hi, My Wife has had the above Acer for about one year which you all know has an eMMC card/drive.  I have been wondering how long this card/drive will last. After searching for some time I learnt nothing, I suppose because no-one has had one die on them. I should say that my Wife is an Invalid and has an erratic sleep pattern she uses her es1 between 16 and 24 hours a day!( I've known it to be on for 36 hours straight ).

I decided I would like to see how and if an SSd external would run on her es1. The es1 has one USB2 and one USB3 connector and as users would know NO ODD. I loaded Win 8.1 onto a Flash drive  and plugged that and the SSd into the comp. It was only after it booted that I realised that I had no mouse.

I then decided to install onto the SSD via my desktop which is an Intel i3. This went well and after the install was finished I swapped the SSd over to the es1. This booted up and prompted me to download the drivers onto a flash drive which were then installed. Every thing is working fine, the only alteration was changing the mouse setting in the BIOS to legacy and of course the BIOS to legacy to boot into the external.

The speed lift is very noticeable. Now all I have to do is some fine tuning. I am now in the process of taping the SSD to the back of the lid.
