HDMI-in problems (Aspire Z3 710)

I want to play my PlayStation 3/4 through the HDMI-in on the pc. I have a few problems with this.

1. I can only access the HDMI-in screen when the actual pc is turned off. I can't find a way to switch between the pc display and the HDMI-in display. The small button on the left side of the computer lets me access a menu, but everything except from 'switch display off' and the word 'exit' is greyed out when the pc is on. I can't pick any other option.

When only the HDMI-in is being used, the menu lets me pick the first option in the menu (a screen with an arrow going through it), the 'turn off screen' option and the 'exit' option. I can't select the (what looks like) HDMI cable option or what I'm guessing is the brightness setting (it's a picture of a sun).

2. When using the HDMI-in, the only audio I get is through earphones. I can't get any audio at all to come through the internal speakers in the monitor. As mentioned above, I can't seem to find any option for audio in the small settings menu. Changing options in the pc settings when it is turned on does nothing (I guess the pc is actually switched off while it is just being used as a screen for HDMI-in).

3. I can only find one button on the monitor that actually controls/brings up a settings menu. Is there really only one small button for this or are the rest hidden under a panel etc.? The only other physical buttons that I can find are for the power and the dvd drive eject.

The main reason I wanted this pc was because it was an all-in-one that I could also play PlayStation games through.I didn't think I'd have to sit 3cm away from the screen so I can listen to audio through my earphones (which I can't even change the volume of as there is no audio controls on the monitor). I can't even connect bluetooth headphones/speakers to my PlayStation3 to half-fix this problem. Have I just made a big mistake buying this machine? Can anything be fixed (maybe through driver downloads etc.)?

Hi, I'm having similar problems. How did you manage to keep the monitor on with the computer turned off? I have not been able to figure this out.

My HDMI output works fine, but I cannot get the input to work. I have plugged in my Chromebook via HDMI to my AIO, and on the Chromebook it recognises the HDMI connection to my Acer, I just cannot switch inputs on the computer/monitor.

I have had this post bookmarked for a while now, hoping someone would respond. Still going to be keeping my fingers crossed as I would very much like to play PS4 on my AIO. However, I am glad I'm not the only one with this issue.

EDIT: I just connected my PS4 to see if I can get it to work, and it automatically switched input and I am able to switch between PC and HDMI input flawlessly. I have yet to try this with my PS3 and/or 360, but I have my PS4 working with no effort on my part. I don't know how..

@alexa4639 I plugged my PS4 into my Acer a few months ago and it worked no problem. I tried doing it again a few days ago and now the hdmi-in doesn't seem to be working again. I've had to go back to having the actual pc turned off for it to work. I haven't tried my PS3 again but I bet that doesn't work either. Chances are you'll try playing your ps4 on it a few months down the line and you'll have these problems again like me.

@RevoMaxx Stated in the first point of my comment is that I have accessed that menu but I cannot press the hdmi-in button as it is always greyed out.

Oh geez, fingers crossed that's not the case. But if it is, then I'll just have to figure it out when it gets to that point. Hopefully it's not a temperamental connection.

I tried pluggin in my PS4 again today and it's working again. How I got it to work? Used a different HDMI cable.

A few days ago I was trying to use a genuine Microsoft HDMI cable, one you would think would work extremely well. For some reason, the Acer dosn't like it. It only seems to like the cable that came with my PS4. Even the PS3 cable doesn't always work. To get that to work I need to plug in my PS4 then quickly switch it out for my PS3.

The HDMI-in connection on the Acer seems to be either badly made or just very snooty about what cables it likes. I'm not sure what it is about the HDMI cables it has trouble with, you'd think they'd be all the same.

Try this theory out for yourself and see if you have bother with differnt HDMI cables. I could be completely wrong about this after all.

Yeah, I managed to get it working with a different HDMI cable. The one I originally tried to use seems to be glitching with other devices so I'm in the process of getting a new one to replace it.

It's pretty confusing that the Microsoft cable didn't work..

Hey , I just tried playing my PS4 on this all in one pc but the volume seems too loud. I play on the nights and I cannot find a way to lower the volume when I am on hdmi in. Is there any way I can mute the volume or lower it ?
