Ramdrew wants to know why my iconia A1 only starts when its plugged in. The power on button doesn't turn it on or off. It also won't let me shut it off completly. It turns off after 15 seconds, unless I change the settings turn off time to longer. Once it's off it's not off completly. It idles in stand-by mode. I've tried the holding down the volume and power button suggestion, to no avail. I really don't want to resort to resetting it, because, of material from pictures I have drawn on the tablet would be erased. Over all I say this is a good product, and have had no issuses before, with thia tablet, or the laptop I had before. Any suggestions? Thank-You for your time. Ramdrew

It looks like you might have more than one thing going on. First of all we need to know more about your tablet. There have been a lot of A1 models. Do you know which model you have? When did you buy it?

Does the power button do anything? In order to turn it completely off you press and hold the power button until the shutdown menu appears (just a few seconds), from that menu you choose Power Off. If pressing the power button doesn't do anything then there might be a hardware problem with it.

If the battery will not run the tablet then it's either a bad battery or it has become disconnected from the motherboard. Either would give you the symptom of not running without power connected.
