Good day,

I have created an Acer image using the software that came with my laptop using an extarnal USB HDD

My laptop is VN7-571G-7309 which came with 60GB SSD (on M2) and a 2TB HDD.

I swapped the HDD with a 256GB SSD, used Acronis Disk Director to clean both disks and then boot from the recovery HDD, when i try to perform Reset your PC, I get the following error: "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partiton is missing"

When I try to perform System Image recovery, I get the following error window: "Windows cannot find a system image on your computer"

What does that mean? and how do I get my windows back?

PS. i have not installed any software on the laptop after purchase.

    it can be 2 things:

    1) you acer recovery doesn't containt  the whole Acer recovery but just a simple recovery to boot and check about recovery partition on HDD

    2) Acer recovery can't find the 2TB HDD and so it fails to create the correct D: partition due to smaller SSD size

by the way, if your laptop had windows 8.x or 10, you can download and clean installa vanilla Microsoft windows version and then download from support site, drivers and acer applications:

    windows 8.1

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

    windows 10

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    Acer support:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers/5614;-;Aspire%20VN7-591G

I downloaded the 8.1 vanilla but it asks me for product key. isnt that supposed to be stored in the BIOS?

there is no sticker on the buttom like before stating Windows key.

    How do i proceed?

Plus, why did Acer backup software fail?

it informed me to delete backup partition once I make the image backup.

Also i removed the 2TB HDD and installed 256GB SSD in its place

can you skip the steps asking for a product key?

if so, the product key is on BIOS, at the end of installation process will be authorize automatically.

i already answered why, probably, Acer recovery is failing.

    hello IronFly,

it does not provide any means to bypass product code.

Next button is greyed till i get the product code input.

I was spart to get the product key from original install using a free software tool, but when i input that, it does not recognize it.

Does Acer have a window download somewhere that can detect its laptops and install windows?

Just want to add one more thing: I purchased this laptop 17 days ago, yet Acer website tells me i'm past my one year support.

Not sure how this is so, although I bought the thing brand new from their sole distributer in Baghdad, Iraq and paid a premium for this.

I will probably return this and go back to HP if I couldnt get it fixed in the next day or two.

    VERY BAD SUPPORT ACER

    Hi talal77maki,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I might recommend ensuring that you don't have any partitions set when start the process and let the recovery drive handle those things. Also, installing a retail version of Win8.1 will not work with an OEM key.

I would recommend contacting your local support team, they may need a proof of purchase to update your warranty information. http://support.acer.com select your region and click "Contact Acer".

    Hope this helps,
    Cory
