Acer Aspire ES1 111M cannot install windows 10

I cannot update my netbook. During the Windows 8.1 to 10 update WHEA (blue screen error) error appears and windows 8.1 is reinstalled. I have tried it several times with different external USB disks used to extend the system capacity.

Clean Windows 10 installation works but I cannot activate Windows 10.

I have regular issues with WHEA error. It was solved by the processor power reduction to 95%.

The Netbook has already been  in Acer service but the WHEA issue has not been solved.

I am thinking to return it back.

    Gregorius1,

This is what I would do if I were in your shoes......

According the post below, Microsoft will allow you to do a clean install of Windows 10 in November by entering the key.  Obviously you found out that doing a clean install is not a proper upgrade procedure at the present moment.

Not sure what date in November.  But you should be able to do a clean install of Windows 10 sometime in Novemeber and have it activate properly.  Just write down your Windows 8.1 w/ bing key.

Don't try to clean install now, because it doesn't work....to the best of my knowledge.  You'll have to use Windows 8.1 w/ bing for now.

Note: I assume in November you'll be able to do clean install of win10 for computers w/ Windows 8.1 w/ bing.  But I can't guarantee it.

Thanks. I can wait with update. I have already recovered the Windows Key from the system.

I was chating with Microsoft yesterday about Windows 10 activation. They did not mention this options to be available in November.

Can't use a Windows 8.1 key to activate Win 10, it gennerates a new key on update.

The most common failure to update I see is a computer that has not previously loaded every required and optional update that has the word "Windows" in it. Just keep going until it cannot find any more, pull a system image & recovery drive, then upgrade.

Once upgraded, save the new Win 10 key.

I did the updated process again with the same effect. The upgrading process crashed at 13% progress with Copying Files progres of 45%. It always crash at the same moment.

PC full updated and Windows 10 Media Creator freshly downloaded.

Make sure you create a USB factory default recovery drive of windows 8.1 w/ bing.  And also a backup of Drivers and Apps.

    http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29934/~/use-acer-recovery-management-to-restore-your-system-or-create-recovery-media

After Microsoft releases Threshhold2 next week (or whenever they release it), run the media creation tool again just to be on the safe side and create a new win10 USB drive media.  And then wipe your HDD drive and clean install win10.

You're not the first person to have this problem.  My advice is ......once again........ Wait until they release threshhold2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit:  Also.....don't delete your USB factory default recovery drive of Windows 8.1 w/bing.  Put it in a safe place....and keep it for the rest of your computers usable life.

Thanks. I will wait. I hope it will also solve the Blue screen error too.

    Sounds good.

Here are intructions on how to create a USB factory default recovery drive:

Here are instructions on how to make an Apps and Drivers backup:

It's important to make those two backups prior to upgrading to Windows 10.

Edit:  And you'll also need to backup up your important personal files.

Edit2:  And win10 drivers are here:

If you have problems, check for BIOS update.

My experience (ES1-111M-C72R) is a little different from yours.

The Windows 8.1 updates (90 of them) crashed the poor little new Acer laptop to a point where it tried to roll back some updates, failed, and I had to finally do a factory restore to the original Windows 8.1 it shipped with.

(The Windows.old directory filled up most of the SSD space, and I had to do a Disk/System Cleanup to get rid of it)

I then did a backup of the factory restore image to a 16GB USB stick.

I then immediately went to http://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10 and downloaded the Win 10 upgrade and managed to upgrade my Win 8.1 to Win 10 successfully.

You will need to attach a USB stick with at least 10GB free space to the USB port for the upgrade to work.

I don't think I have a Windows 8.1 restore partition on the SSD anymore.

I have about 10GB of free SSD space after the upgrade to Windows 10.

The whole process took over an hour.

Are the backups above specific to the PC (e.g. embedded serial number), or can a backup of another similar model PC be used to restore mine? Reason I ask is that I only did the first (factory restore image), not the 2nd, before I upgraded to Windows 10.

Finally I have installed clean Windows 10 Threshold 2 on my netbook.

Now I need to install all drivers manually.

Does anybody knows how to get Acer Care Centre installed after clean Windows 10 installation?

I wonder if it helps with the blue screen error.....

@Gregorius  Good Job.  Don't forget windows 10 drivers for your model and BIOS are here:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

To find your current BIOS version:

    1. right click on windows start button

    2. left click on run

    3. type msinfo32

    4. click ok

For Acer Care Center question or other questions about bluescreen, you should start a new thread as it will garner more visibility.  Smiley Happy

    @Natey2,

Good question.  But I don't know.  You can start a new thread so more people will see it.  If you have Windows 10 installed and it's working good, generally you don't need to worry about Windows 8.1 with Bing anymore.

If you don't need any of the Acer Applications, then you can skip the Drivers and Apps backup.  However, it's possible that Acer Care Center is on the Apps and Drivers backup, so you could simply install that one app.  Actually, I don't know anything about Acer Care Center.....so I shouldn't really say that.  I don't use Acer Care Center.  I just check manually for Drivers, BIOS, patches once per month from here.  Better start a new thread.  Smiley Happy

Don't forget to go to Settings>Update and Security>Activation to make sure your Windows 10 is activated.

The main reason I emphasized creating a factory default backup recovery drive of Windows 8.1 w/Bing is because you can't download the free vanilla iso of the Bing version of Windows 8.1.  Acer charges approximately $45 for the Windows 8.1 Bing recovery media.....if for some reason you ever needed/wanted to go back to Windows 8.1.

Guys, I installed Windows 10 more less year ago. This week I tried to upgrade Windows 10 to the Anniversary edition. It completly failed. Unfortunately, I have not created the Windows 10 image backup so I restored Windows 8.1.

I tried everything but I cannot upgrade it to Windows 10 again. Any tips?

Once an upgrade fails it leaves bits and pieces all over your disk. First run Disk Cleanup (File Exporer , right click on the C: drive and select properies. ) remove everything. If you have a c:\windows.old directory, move it offline.

Next go here and use the tool to create an external upgrade file & try from that.

At least you can always restore to 8.1, most cannot.

It doesn't look like your ES1 111M is on the list for Anniversary.

You can read my posts in link below to get the previous "November" version of Windows 10 ISO and create USB installation media with rufus.

The link below describes how to wipe your drive and clean install Windows 8.1 (or Windows 10).  The topic is about Windows 8.1 but it's the same instructions for Windows 10.
