SLI problem with the Predator x34

So on top of the fact that i have to reset the profile to Native from a ghost profile everytime I restart, but I have to also reset my SLI prreferences.

On top of this if I choose SLI in Full windowed applications, I am fine. The monitor reports 100hz and I can play my games at 100hz.  Even though I'm playing games in Windowed mode.

If I switch it to SLI in Full and Windowed mode, then my monitor will show 100hz until i start a game in Full screen Or windowed mode.  At this point I'm only getting between 15-30 Hz and of course everything is very choppy.

Once again this isn't a major issue that is preventing me from doing anything I want to do, but I'm wondering if this is just a driver issue which will be fixed after Acer and Nvidia work out some details or if this is a monitor issue. My gut tells me it is a driver issue as the monitor can be set and perform at 100hz.  The monitor just doesn't stay set at that resolution after reset and doesn't like one of the options within the SLI Nvidia menu.

Whatcha think?

So I broke down and did a reinstall.

Monitor came up perfectly in 100hz, single profile and no issues with the Monitor Drivers which came up on their own just fine.

So I believe that the problem is when you have had a previous monitor installed that had the capability of over 100Hz, there can be a conflict or confusion.  Even uninstalling that monitor or reinstalling the Nvidia drivers did not fix the issue, which means that the old monitor(s) were still present in the registry.  A reinstall of course removes all these potential conflicts, tho i think Acer should come up with something different through software or at least some documentation of the potential issues.

Right now all is up, running perfectly through multiple restarts.

Have you checked for a newer Nvidia driver for your computer? Possibly uninstalling, reboot, and reinstalling the graphics driver would help. Try setting the refresh rate to 95Hz or below.

I don't know if you already have this or if it will help.I suspect no.

Completely uninstalled the Nvidia driver using their utility in Safe Mode and downloaded/installed that driver. Smiley Happy

That is when i noticed the issue.

Ah yes this is the monitor driver. yes i have this one .. the one that isn't digitally signed that i had to go into advanced mode, chose option 7 to install.

    I'm running WIn 10 btw.

It was explained to me that it's not a driver, but a set of instructions as Monitors don't need drivers.

You ever had to install anything besides the graphics driver for a monitor before? That's why I said I didn't think it would work. If it caused the problem, try to find it and uninstall it. Check Control Panel/Programs.

As I edited my repsonse. I thought you meant GPU driver.  The monitor driver (which shoulnd't be needed in Win 10), I did try this from the Acer site. It is non-digitally assigned so it wasn't the easiest thing to install, but I got it in there.

Considering the issues I'm having seem to be within the NVIDIA panel which allows me to select full screen or windowed SLI, this is why I feel that it is an nvida driver issue.  Same thing with the ghost profile that comes after rebooting the machine. It is a profile within the Nvidia control panel.

Hi brighttail, I've got exactly the same problem as you but I'm running a single Titan X on Windows 10.  If you manage to fix it can you post back here?  I'm thinking its a driver issue also.  Thanks.

Just an update, I noticed if I Uninstall the NVIDIA GeFore GTX Titan X driver from Device Manager (right clicking on driver and uninstall) then reboot, it does let me all the way through to the desktop.

I'll keep working on the problem to see if I can resolve it.

When you uninstall the driver then of course you can get into windows.  If you are getting black screen when entering windows with your driver installed try this:

Plug in your HDMI cable.  Change the input over to HDMI on the monitor.  Install the driver while still having the DP connection in.  When it installs and reboots, change it to DP and you should be able to set the Nvidia settings in the control panel to the DP input and up to 100hz..

After you reboot a couple times and it comes up with the DP okay, then you can unplug your HDMI.

Thanks Brighttail.  Interesting one here, seems like as soon as I set the monitor is set to 100hz, it always wants to boot to a blank screen (just after the welcome screen).

If I install the drivers and leave it at 60hz it seems fine.  Odd thing is, it can definately do 100hz once it's booted all the way through.

Something seems wierd with the initialisation of Nvidia drivers upon startup.

Did you have a previous screen with like 144hz or 120hz?

I had the exact same issues and connectd the HDMI and DP, but started at HDMI initially to be able to see the screen.  I could then chnage the input to DPI, change the monitor to 100hz, move the input back to HDMI and then back to DP and the settings held.

That created the profile for 100hz. Now when I reboot it comes up as the original 59hz profile which is actually a ghost, but I just switch it over to the native and no more black screen.

Actually yes I did have a 144hz monitor (Asus ROG). I tried what you said and as soon as the hdmi cable is unplugged it loses its setting no matter what.

What I'm doing now is a fresh format to eliminate any possibility that it's an old monitor profile.

Let me know how this goes. I'm going to be doing a reformat when i get my Samsung 950 pro SSD m.2 in later next week and i'd be very interested in knowing if that fixes it.

So far so good! I'll keep cycling the PC to make sure it's sticking at 100hz.

    So the reinstall happened.

You were able to install the GPU driver and OC the monitor and it came up with no issues using the DP?  SLI Good?

Still good, though I'm downloading a tonne of Windows Updates and reinstalling Steam/Origin/everything else at the moment so haven't had a chance to turn the system off again.

Here's the exact sequence I did everything in.

    1) Before I started I made sure that the Monitor was overclocked in the OSD to 100hz.

    2) Reinstalled Windows 10.

    3) Upon boot up the first thing I did was Nvidia 358.50 Drivers.

    4) Nvidia Control Panel detected 3440x1440 @ 60hz.  I set this to 100hz.  It stuck.

    5) Shut down the machine.

    6) Started the machine up again, and it made it past the logon screen and straight into Desktop @ 100hz.  Checked Nvidia Control Panel once again and it has stuck at 100hz.  Whereas prior to this all I would get is a blank screen.

Don't have SLI so can't comment on that, all i've got is a single Titan X.

Once my patching is done, i'll cycle it a few times, put her into sleep mode, then come back and report if it's still all good.

Well I'll wait until I reinstall my OS when i get my new SSD.

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Yep all sorted now it seems, i've cycled it a number of times now and it looks like it is definately sticking.  Best of luck when you get your new SSD, please do report if it works for you too.

    brighttail,

I've been trying to keep a solid list, but I don't have you down for the half screen backlight issues as others have described. Did you have that problem? If so, have you had it since doing a fresh install?
