help with Acer V3-571-6850 keyboard! Typing an apostrophe is coming out as è and a backslash as é

Hi There,

I just bought a new Acer Laptop (Aspire V3-571-6850) and I am having some issues with the keyboard. Every once in awhile the keys will switch the only typing the sub-keys. Example: an apostrophe is è and a backslash is é....I have tried pressing the function key and typing again and nothing happens. I have tried pressing the alt car key and typing and nothing happens. I have tried closing MS Word and reopening and it is the same (it also persists through any other typing programs including internet). The only thing I have found that works is completley restarting my computer. I have so many papers to write and this is so frustrating! I am not super computer literate or technologically inclined so I really hope there is a simple solution to this and I am just missing it. Please help!

The issue is related to having a French-Canadian unit and how the keyboard language is set up.

A lot of posters to this forum have had this problem - some with alternate blue characters, some with alternate green characters.  There does not seem to be a universal solution to this. Search here and under desktops for keyboard, green, blue. It is possible that some of the suggested solutions will work for your particular case.

I just fixed this problem of forward slash and back slash missing. Go to Control panel then Language.
Look for the Input Method area and you may see more than one type of method. I
I had two: US and Canadian Multilingual Standard. I removed the Multilingual
one and then the slash keys worked ok and several others keys started ok like the ? key.
