All,
It seemed like a good idea at the time...
I purchased an Aspire V5-571PG-53314g75mass about a month ago. Wonderful touch-screen
enabled laptop running Windows 8, 8 gigs memory, the lot.
Well, I set a BIOS password the week I got it. Last week I tried to get back in to see
if I could turn off the EUFI secure boot mechanism. I like to use Clonezilla to do image backups
and needed to boot the Clonezilla live-cd.
Long story, short. I managed to enter the wrong password three times. I should have shut it off
after two goes, but went brain dead.
Now I am locked out of the BIOS. When booting the machine and pressing F2 it prompts with:
Password/Unlock key [ ]
Unlock Key Hint Number 46AD0514
I can still boot into Windows 8 just find and all is well, I just cannot get into the BIOS.
I have Googled and read that given certain input values such as serial number and service key
and the hint key to a password generator will provide a "back door" password.
I am the owner, just did something stupid. As said, the Aspire V5-571PG runs a treat and
is fully functional, just cannot get into the BIOS.
Of course, my preference would not have to box it up to an Acer Service Centre, pay them
$XXX.XX to correct my stupidity.
Any thoughts or suggestions, even if deprecating would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Beachfeet.
