Hi All

I have an Acer Aspire Easystore nas. Currently it has 4 Seagate 250gb hdd under a raid 5 config.

I have run out of space (+/-650 gb) This has been great for the last few years so I am thinking

about upgrading.

I have prevoiusly upgraded the firmware to V2.5 and in the readme file for that it says:

> 1. Add support for single volume size over 2TB.

Has any one put 4 * 2tb disks into one of these?

I am thinking of Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001

Any tips or hints welcome?

Thanks

Peter

searching I found lots of references to Western Digital Red NAS hdds,Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 and some WD greens, in the Acer.

    Hi All
As a general note for all out there on my experiances with trying to
upgrade the Acer Aspire Easystore with 2TB Seagate Barracuda
    ST2000DM001 drives.
(Q: Why Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001? A: I could get then cheap)

I had prevoiusly upgraded the firmware to V2.5
    see:
    ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/storage/aeasystore/fw/

When I installed the HDD they were regonised as 2TB each. However
it would just not format would just go to 94% and stop. I did set
the time out to 600 min in case it was powering down while formating
and left it to format overnight. I tried formating as raid 5 and
JBOD but it did not work.

    I found this:
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1058603
It is long and old but it had some some usefull hints.
I downgraded the firmware and even did a reset to factory.

When I downgraded I could format (it took quite a while +/-4 hours)
but it would not read the full size of the HDD. And I ended up with
about 1.3TB on raid or 1.8 TB on JBOD.

I then when down the whole accessing the root of the system to
    EG: http://dns323.kood.org/howto:fun_plug

I finally got to the state, with firmware 2.1, that there was a
raid 5 on the box (5.8 TB total), when I accessed it via telnet,
but I could not share the volume or access it via the easystore
    web interface.

I am sure if I tried more I could probably get it to work but
right now it's just not worth more of my time.
I will leave that to braver souls.
    Regards
    Peter
