Hello I have a acer aspire 4738G with a and Radeon hd6370m graphics card. I am running Windows 10 64bit. Two days ago I went to update my amd driver as the catalyst software told me there was an update. After I installed the update my screen went blank after 30 minutes. I restarted the computer and nothing happened. My screen is now blank and the power light turns on next to the power button and the lightbulb indicator turns on and I can hear the cd drive whirring but the screen is pitch black!

If anyone has a solution please help! Thank you in advance!

    If alt-f10 doesn't work.....

    http://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38193/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDQ0NzA1Nzg4L3NpZC9pVTcqU095bQ%3D%3D

Then you can make a windows 10 media USB or DVD.....(on a different computer....choose "install on a different pc")

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After you make your installation media, then go in to your BIOS settings and tell it to boot to your USB or DVD drive....

And boot your windows 10 media (USB or DVD)

After you select your language, look for "Repair your Computer"

You can reset your PC or use a restore point or try startup repair.  You'll have to navigate the menu and explore the options and decide what's best for you.

I've never actually done it because I haven't had any problems....but that's what I would do if I were in your shoes.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

It sounds like it's the Graphics driver. You want to try to boot in safe mode, which will not let the driver start.

You need Win 10 repair/recovery drive which you can make in Win 10. I'm not sure, but you may be able to do it with a Win 8.1 drive or install disk too.

    Boot from install disk

When you see the INSTALL page, choose repair/go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options> Command Prompt.

In the opened command-line interface, type C: and press Enter

Once the first commend executes successfully, type BCDEDIT /SET {DEFAULT} BOOTMENUPOLICY LEGACY command and press Enter.

In the command line-interface itself, this time type EXIT and press Enter.

Eject the inserted Windows 10 bootable disc

Back on the Choose an option window, click Continue.

Once the computer shuts down and begins to restart, start pressing the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.

When displayed, use the arrow keys to go to (highlight) the Safe Mode option and press Enter to start Windows 10 in safe mode.

Go to Control center/Programs and uninstall the graphics driver.

USB is pretty much the same.

Thank you guys for the suggestions! When I turn on the laptop the cd drove spins and the lightbulb symbol lights up and that's it! I tried plugging my computer to my tv via a vga cable but that didn't work either! I can't get my Laptop to even show me enough to get into the bios. The bottom of the computer feels hot. I can hear the fan running. Nothing else is happening! Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I even put a Windows 10 repair disc in the drive but I can't get it to boot from there without accessing the bios! What should I do?

Take out the hdd and try to boot the disk. With the hdd out the DVD player should be the first boot device.

I don't know how this happened but I restarted my computer enough times connected to power and I was able to get my screen to turn on! I uninstalled my graphics driver and the screen went colorful. I then restarted my Laptop and I reinstalled Windows 10 and everything seems to be working fine now!
