How to run multi version programs on Windows 10

I'mrunning the Windows 10 upgrade on my Aspire M3970. I' have  Mil-spec program that is supposed to run on any version of Windows. But when I try I get a "cannot run on this version of Windows." I suspect it is 16 bit, but the help text on the site says it is because vendors have restricted other windows version software.

Anyone know anything about this?

No way that Acer locked windows 10....since you can download a vanilla image from Microsoft website and install it without issues on Acer machines.

rigth click on the executable of the software you want run, choose Properties - Compatibility

tick "run this program in compatibility mode for"

choose a previous window version, click on Apply and OK

    check if it runs.

I apologize for not making it clear: I installed what I think was a 16bit program. The suopport staff claim that it will run on any windows platform from 1.0 to 10. They claim that Acer, among others, locks Windows 10 so it won't run down rev programs.

Is this true or is he full of it?
