Acer Predator G3=605 doesn't boot 8.1

This computer is approaching 2 years old and this sort of thing happens a lot. This time I cannot figure out how to make it boot again. This morning, it booted and I used the computer to browse the web. I plugged in my portable harddrive and the display went black and it stopped being able to boot.
I have since removed the device but the computer still won't boot.

This is all I can get: the computer turns on, goes to the acer splash screen, loads the little dotted circle for a moment or two and then the display goes black. The computer is still on and running but there is no display and Windows does not boot.

I've tried installing Windows 10 from a USB but it tells me I need to boot Windows before installing Windows 10... problem is, I can't boot Windows!

Can anyone help? I'm at the end of my rope. The only thing plugged into the computer now is an HDMI cable for the  display (a TV, because my LG monitor refused to even display the Acer logo earlier!!) and a USB keyboard that came with the system.

    try this:
at boot press ALT+F10 , this will start Acer/windows recovery.
    From the Recovery screen
    Click on Troubleshoot.
    Click on Advanced Options.
    Click on Startup Settings.
    Click on Restart.
The PC will now reboot to the Startup Settings screen.
Press 4 to Enable Safe Mode as prompted.

once in Safe mode, go to Device manager, click on Display adapters, right click on your VGA and choose uninstall(tick to uninstall software too).

reboot normally and check if black/blank screen is fixed.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
