How do I find the full model name including the exitensions.

I am trying to get a laptop with the capability to upgrade the screen, I find it difficult to locate the models which can be upgraded to higher resolution as the retailers are not disclosing the extensions, it's really a pain and need a lot of work by the user, is there anywhere I can find these? I have highlighted in my snip which I am looking for.

    brummyfan2,

From what I can tell looking over the documentation, the HD and FHD screens use the same cable part number.

  • Thank you but I would like to know available models which can be upgraded to a higher resolution screen, what I am trying to accomplish is that to buy a cheap Acer Aspire laptop and change the screen to FHD(1920x1080) from HD(1366x768), to do that I need the full details of the hardware available in those models, as you can see from my post, some variants of same models capable of FHD screens and not others.

  • I think you will have to look at the video chip in the models and find one that is capable of FHD(1920x1080) but only has a HD(1366x768) display. That would be one indicator anyway.

I would not bother with upgradability of the laptop screen.  If it can be done, it probably won't really be cost effective.  Would be cheaper to buy a good externa monitor and use that instead.

    brummyfan2,

I guess the question I have in my head would be that the FHD (1920x1080) screen supports the 1366x768 resolution, why not just get a notebook that has the FHD screen type and reduce the resolution as needed?

They are both 16:9 ratios, I do not believe purchasing a notebook and then purchasing a separate display to install on it will be cost effective, the screen is one of the highest priced things on a notebook in most cases. That being said, I "might" be able to track down some part numbers for you, though it will not be "easy" since you are looking at models and parts outside the US. Smiley Frustrated

  • Thank you for the suggestions Justin, the price of the FHD laptop is the main reason for me to do the upgrade and also the fun part of upgrade, FHD Acer laptop will cost me between £800 to £1000 in UK but I could get a screen for £60-£70 and upgrade a £400-£500 Acer laptop, I need to find out the display cable(mainly eDP) used in the laptop and the number of Pins in connector, as you have mentioned it's not easy to find parts but at the same time it's very interesting experience as well, anyway, looking forward your help regarding the model numbers, thanks again for your time.
