Hello

I own a Aspire X XC 605 ( i5 4460 3.20 GHz), which  has 4 GB DDR3 RAM memory and 500 GB hard drive.

a) can I upgrade my RAM memory? how much can I have? which RAM memories should I buy (4, 8 - I don't know How many RAM slots this machine has)

B) can I upgrade the hard drive as well? If so, how much can I have?

Thanks for the help!

Paulo

Hello, You system is a Nice system that offers Some Upgrades

For your 605 it seems you can have 16GB Of Ram. So 2 Slots of 8GB

Your HD is a Serial ATA/300

If it was my system and I wanted to upgrade the hardware I would add the following items myself

    HyperX FURY Memory Black - 16GB Kit* (2x8GB) - DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM By Kingston Around 90.00USD

However you can pick from the KITS of White, Red, Blue and Black.........

    I would upgrade to a 960GB SSD

Bundle Kit,HyperX Savage,SATA3 (6Gbps), SSD 2.5-inch 7mm Range in price for the SSD upgrade is between 530-700 USD depending on where you buy.

However you could easy stay with a SATA 1TB drive that are going for good prices as well. IF you could find a 2TB at a good price that would be great too.

The SSD is faster then most SATA drives and seeing there is no spin up takes less power to run and I think for a system with a large power draw the SSD is a great upgrade.

EDIT: Looking on Kingston website buying both items for your computer the upgrade price from them would be 626.70 for a savings of 215.30 USD

If you're looking to upgrade your existing hard drive....the link below shows a very popular model that will work for your desktop.  Acer actually puts it in some of their desktops.

Many people are moving to the cloud so often times a large hard drive upgrade isn't necessary.  I use OneDrive, GoogleDrive, GooglePhoto and Flickr.  But that varies from person to person on how comfortable they are using the cloud or how they use their computer in general.

If you need or want a speedy SSD, at halfway decent price, Crucial and Samsung SSDs are popular. If you don't need bitlocker for work or company policy, then I can recommend the crucial bx100 series as they should work well with your Intel H81 controller and i5 and BIOS....and are good for typical home consumer use.

I bought the 250GB size, but it's impossible for me to say how big you need since I don't know how you use your computer. If you don't use the cloud or have external USB drives or NAS, then you might have to go bigger...depending on your needs.  HD video content can really take up a lot of space in a hurry.
