S240HL No Signal

I''ve had many issues throughout the year with my pc, recently bought a new motherboard which resolved my previous issues. I have a EVGA GTX 970 powering off of a EVGA 750W SUPERNOVA G2 PSU with a Dell Monitor Plugged in via Display Port and my Acer Monitor as a secondary on DVI, I also have a hdmi plugged in which is my tv.

After installing my new mobo, which was a different brand from my other mobo, I noticed my primary monitor(dell) didn't have a signal and my acer monitor was on a really low resolution. I reinstalled windows as I thought it was a chipset driver issue. After installing my graphics card driver and restarting my acer monitor was still really low resolution but my dell monitor was 1920*1080 so that was resolved. I don't have any option of increase the resolution in windows and have even reset my monitor settings.

I borrowed my friends dvi cable, still low resolution.

I borrowed my friends monitor, I now had the option of 1920*1080, selected it but the monitor still looked like a low resolution. I brought my friends monitor back to him and plugged it all back in. He had no signal on his monitor, I tried plugging my monitor in, same thing. I tried his dvi from his working monitor in his second monitor and still no signal.

if you restart the pc with the monitor plugged in, my monitor or my friends, in my pc or his pc, the monitor works but on a really low resolution with no option of changing it, unplugging the dvi and plugging back in get's no signal, on my pc and friends pc.

My monitor is broken

I've broken my friends monitor

I did notice my power surge protector light on my extension which i used for my pc was out so have bought a new one and assumed that's what has broken both my monitor and my friends monitor as I don't think it's possible for dvi port to break a monitor? correct me if i'm wrong.

As it's out of warranty I thought I would take the monitor apart and check for signs of a power surge on the pcb to confirm my theory, but can't see any? all the capacitors look ok, non are bulging. any help greatly appreciated.

I'm actually scared of plugging another monitor into my pc or even using it at the momment incase my dell monitor breaks.
