Edit: Not sure where else to post this, so here goes!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is 1 problem that has always bugged me about my Acer D260 WiFi driver.
Whenever the Netbook goes to sleep, it always fails to show wifi networks.
Even when it was brand new, no wifi connections will appear after reboot.
The ONLY ways to fix these problem (NOT a real solution):
1) Reboot - Causes problems if you have multiple apps open that need internet access. Rebooting loses things.
2) Install Windows 8 - WiFi works perfectly in Windows 8, so I don't think it is a BIOS problem.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things I also tried (Did NOT fix the problem):
1) WiFi > full power mode/don't allow Windows to disable to save power/etc.
2) WiFi > On/Off (Function keys)
3) WiFi > Enable/Disable
4) WiFi > Uninstall driver/Reinstall driver
5) WiFi > Right-click tray connection/Troubleshoot problems (no solution found error)
6) Bios > Updated
7) Driver > Factory Driver from Acer site
8) Driver > Older driver
9) Windows > Clean installed x32 & x64 7 (separately)
10) Windows > Updated Driver from Windows Updates
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to reproduce the problem:
1) Boot netbook, waiting for everything to properly load
2) Close lid
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's it! Going to sleep kills the WiFi. Does it every time!
Bios update, Windows update, Factory drivers, Device manager/disable sleep mode for Wifi device...
Nothing fixes this problem!!!
What is weird, is it only seems to happen on Sleep mode.
Hibernate seems to resume & work fine.
Rebooting is the ONLY way to fix the problem.
That, or using Windows 8. Sleep works & resumes perfectly under Windows 8.
But, Windows 8 has other problems. Metro, etc. Blah! I want my WiFi to work under 7!
I am not sure if this is a BIOS or Driver problem.
Because, Windows 7 & Windows 8 handle sleep/hibernate modes very differently.
Definitely a bug that needs to be fixed!!!
Can't tell you how aggravating it is to never be able to close this lid, for fear of losing my work!!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure if it is the BIOS, or Driver that needs the update, because while it does work perfectly under 8, it might or might not be the newer driver in Windows 8. It might also be, the way 8 handles sleep mode. Whichever it is, hoping for a fix!!!
Patiently waiting for a solution...
Sincerely,
Mr. Scared to go to sleep
