A1-830 kitkat SD write restrictions

Hello everyone, new member here.

My username was supposed to be gvpacertab, but I pressed V instead of C by mistake and didn't notice!!!

Anyway, now for the unpleasant part.

Is there anyway to remove the new 3rd party SD card write restrictions that came with the 4.4 "upgrade"? It's really hampering me.

I mainly used the 830 for music and videos, and would delete a file with VLC as I worked my way through them. I also used a couple of office apps which could save to the SD card, but not any more.

My 830 isn't much use to me now, and I've gone back to using an old Lenovo with 4.1.2 on it.

So, is there anyway to make my 830 good again? It's annoying that I buy a working product for a specific purpose, and then it gets crippled by an "upgrade".

Hi Garry. SInce the restriction is applied by Android you need root access to bypass the permission.

Hello, it's still under warranty at the moment (2 weeks left), and I've never tried rooting before. I read up about rooting a while ago, but didn't fully understand it all. I'll have another look as my cheap android phone is due for replacement, so I'll practice on that!

I don't know why Acer have this new restriction on, as Samsung haven't implimented it on their devices. It'd be nice if they lifted it somehow.

You actually have that backwards, Google implemented the restrictions in KitKat, and they have tightened them with each release since. Samsung has done the development effort to bypass some of the restrictions. They are big enough with their phone sales to support that level of effort. Most tablet manufacturers don't have the market penetration needed to fund that type of customization.
