removing win 8 and replacing with win 7 aspire v5-571

Seriously... it should not be this hard.

First off, Win 8 is junk for actually trying to do work on. It's nice enough on a phone or touch screen tablet, but on a real laptop to do real work (like software development) it just doesn't cut it.

So, having installed windows once or *a lot* over the years, I decided to "downgrade" my brand new Aspire V5-571 to Win 7 after giving Win 8 a try for a month.

So far, it seems... less than possible to do. Even though it should be completely possible.

I can boot just fine from my Win 7 (x64 Ultimate, MSDN ISO burned to DVD) with secure boot turned off and "legacy bios" set instead of UEFI in the BIOS boot settings. It will get into setup just fine, and even let me delete, recreate, and format the partion where Win 8 was installed (and, no, I didn't delete any of the other partitions, because I wanted the recovery partition in place in case I decided to ever sell the laptop and wanted to reinstall Win 8 from the recovery CD I burned), but it won't install because the drive is GPT partioned.

So, after a bit of googling around and trying different tips... nothing works.

  • UEFI on
  • Secure boot off
  • all secure boot data cleared

and *still* every single time I try to boot from the DVD, it hangs on the splash screen ... it can't even get all the way into setup.  Since the x64 versions of 7 *can* install under UEFI and GPT, what do I have to do to get it work? Or should I just use the recovery CD, reinstall Win 8 and *return the laptop* and buy a different one that actually has an OS designed for real users on a real computer, not one designed for toys?

I agree if the os is not useable then what are the options , surely a free downgrade is best option ,until ms sort it out, my laptop is only four days old, have already done a system restore, frustrating having new laptop with os that is basically rubbish, my android phone is easier to use.
