I have an old but not very used netbook aspire one AOA 150 - Ab. Originally it had Linux but somebody changed it to windows Vista a little while ago. The result is that the netbook is deadly slow and so I use it very little. I have another one, similar model but running Linux bu it is such an old version that needs replacing/ updating. Please can you tell me what it is best to do so that I can use at least one of these machines? Thank you

Don't try using Windows Vista, 7, or 8.  That is my first piece of advice. My second is to try using a lightweight Linux distro with a low-resource desktop environment and/or window manager. Try looking for distros like Crunchbang, Ubuntu (not the regular Unity version, but Xubuntu and Lubuntu), Debian installed from the core, Archbang, and/or Arch Linux. This will probably keep these working smoothly and well.
