Hello,
Very non-tech savvy person here.
Need some help and insight if you can please.
I want to upgrade my laptop RAM from 2G to 8G.
My laptop is:
E 14
ES1 - 411 - C6QZ
OS: WIndows 8.1
Processor: Intel Celeron Processor N2840
Memory: 2 GB DDR3 Low Voltage Memory
Storage: 320GB HDD
WLAN: 802.11b/g/n +BT
1 slot for RAM
In a chat to Acer they recommended these specs to upgrade:
Memory size - DDR3L 1066/1333/1600 2 GB (256 Meg x 64),
4 GB (512 Meg x 64), and 8 GB (1 G x 64)
Only Supports DIMM type - SDRAM memory interface design
(Processor supports up to 1333 Mhz only)
Supports DIMM Speed - 1066/1333 SODIMM
Support DIMM voltage- 1.35V and 1.5V
Ok, so here's the thing. I bring these notes in to a computer store and they tell me that they tried a couple of these types in my laptop but they did not work. They tried another type of RAM: 8G DDR3 1600Mhz 1.35V SODIMM CL11 (KVR16LS11/8) and they say it was tested and works with my laptop. I chatted online with Acer again and they said that my laptop should not operate at all with this type of RAM. I spoke to the computer store again and they are saying that it is working with my laptop. I am very confused now and like I said I am not tech savvy at all. What is going on here? Can I actually use another RAM type in my laptop differecnt from the Acer recommended ones? Will my laptop stop working after 6 months if I use this other RAM? So I need clarification/education and help trying to figure this out if possible please. Complete newb here.
Thanks in advance.
