What do I do about my 13 yr old grandson's present purchased on December 23rd 2012.

The Acer notebook Purchased on December 23rd 2012, failed on Jan 25, 2013 won't work now and my grandson is very upset. The computer guy says it is a hard drive problem, and Wal mart says it does not have the extended warranty. My son and I were not offered the extended warranty at the time of purchase. Wal mart will not do anything about the problem now. My grandson is so upset. I suggested the Acer because I have a flat screen monitor and a laptop  that are Acer and so now I am in the bad books too. What can we do???????

    Call tech support at 1-800-816-2237 and have the serial number of the computer or SNID number handy. They can help!
