Alps Touchpad weirdness on V5-573P

Hi everybody,

I upgraded to Windows 10, everything seems mostly smooth so far, except for my touchpad. I use the dual finger scrolling feature quite frequently, but now when I attempt to use it, I see a weird box appear (touch screen related, I think), then the context menu opens up (like a right-click), then it actually scrolls.  I end up having to run my fingers about 3/4 the way across the touchpad before it actually starts scrolling.  It's quite frustrating and impacts the usability of the laptop.

have downloaded and installed the Windows 10 drivers for the touchpad.  No help.

I don't know if anyone else has this issue as well, but some features are disabled (like scroll speed, invert scrolling, etc.).  Anyone know how to enable those options?

I can probably record the screen for an example of what's going on.  Any insight would be great.  Thanks!

Took a lot of digging (and gave up a few times) but I figured out the fix.

The Alps driver for Windows 10 (8.100.2020.212) is great.  The driver for Windows 8 (8.103.2020.206), despite being a newer driver, is absolute crap.  When I download the Windows 10 driver, everything works until Windows update detects that I don't have the latest touchpad driver, and it automatically downloads and installs the newest driver.

I recently came across this article, which describes how to disable automatic driver updates:

    http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/stop-automatic-driver-updates-windows-10

Follow the instructions to disable driver updates.

Uninstall the drivers for the touchpad via Device Manager and Add/Remove Programs, then restart, then download and install the Windows 10 driver, and restart again.  It should work fine after that.

    stevenmalin,

You can try to remove the drivers and install directly from what was downloaded rather than try to update what is already installed, restarting afterwords of course.
