headphones not working

So, I plug in my headphones and they don't work, the speakers work fine but the headphones themselves don't work

I've already tried looking for them in playback devices and only my speakers show up here are a few pictures so you can see what I'm talking about.

In this next Image I have not plugged in my headphones (which has 2 parts, a speaker and a microphone)

If you look at Analog you can see that both the black (headphones) and the pink (microphone) ports do not have anything in them

This next picture I have plugged in both my headphone and my headphone's microphone.

The pink analog is now colored in because it senses the microphones, but the black one stays greyed out, so it does not sense the headphones.

Can someone help me?

Laptop model and installed OS?

It is an Aspire V3-771 with windows 8.1 installed.

Can you try to re-install the audio drivers?

if you already did it, the only way to check if it's an hardware issue, is to boot some Linux LiveCD (Ubuntu) and try headphones.

if you don't want to do it, another try is to do a reset, pressing ALT+F10 at boot and re-install the OS from scratch, but you need to backup your personal data before.

if the issue still persist, probably it's an hardware issue on headphone detection and need to be serviced.
