Nitro VN7-591G Trouble with Fn Esc BIOS recovery option

Hi all,

I'm struggling to get my VN7-591G to complete the crisis recovery mode using Fn + Esc keys. Here is what I have tried:

1) Create blank USB flash drive formatted with FAT32

2) Copy the latest VN7-591G BIOS file to the drive.

3) Rename it HadesSX64.fd

4) While holding Fn + Esc, power on the laptop with the USB flash drive plugged in.

5) BIOS screen does not appear; fans spin up; USB drive flashes a couple of times.

6) After perhaps 30 seconds, the laptop powers down.

It seems like the laptop has entered crisis / recovery mode because of step #5. If the file is not named HadesSX64.fd, then the laptop boots normally.

However, it doesn't seem to have flashed the BIOS because it doesn't read the USB drive enough (only a couple of times - I'm expecting lots of activity and perhaps a minute or two before the laptop powers down or restarts).

Any ideas? I feel like I'm missing something...

The only thing that I can see you might not be doing right is the last couple steps. (make sure it is plugged in also)

4. Press and hold the Fn + Esc keys (this is the BIOS recovery hotkey), then press the
power button.
5. Release the Fn + Esc keys after POST.

Of course, if there is no post screen at all appearing, if I understand what you are saying, then you might need to contact Acer technical support in your area and see what options are available.

Thanks for the help, but I'm afraid that is exactly what I'm doing.

Here are the exact steps and laptop behaviour:

Fn + Esc + Power button (keep holding Fn + Esc makes no difference)

Laptop powers on, but screen does not

USB flash drive LED flashes a couple of times

If USB flash disk contains a file named HadesSX64.fd, then the laptop proceeds as follows:

Fans spin up

Power LED flashes 6 - 8 times.

Laptop powers off.

If USB flash disk is not inserted OR file is named ANYTHING else, then the laptop proceeds to boot normally.

My problem is that I feel that the BIOS should be flashed as a result of the correctly named "HadesSX64.fd" file. However, it does not seem to actually flash the BIOS for some reason. It's almost like I'm missing another step when the laptop's power light is flashing, but I've tried mashing all sorts of key combinations, including Fn + Esc + Power and also Power button alone!

I have looked at the steps and you are doing them exactly like it says to do. If you system boots up have you tried just reflashing the BIOS again with the version you wanted to flash with?

In fairness, I'm just trying to "force" a BIOS flash using the Fn + Esc + Pwr button method.

The laptop works fine, I just wonder why it won't force flash?

Hi,

i'm facing the same issue. Was running version 1.08, could not get my VN7-591G (74TX) firmware to (uefi) boot the proper .efi file. Read that this would be fixed with bios/firmware upgrade. Did run upgrade but this process failed. Now got a sortof 'bricked' laptop. Did the unzip and un7zip of the downloaded stuff en copied the `firmware`.fd image on to a usb stick (with fat file-system). If this file is called 'HadesSX64.fd' it reacts as described above (otherwise nothing happens, No F2 or F12, only ctrl-alt-del to restart). Blue led start flashing (esc-fn)+powerOn and power down in roundabout 10 - 15 seconds. Tested this with versions 1.08. 1.13 and 1.15. Any help or pointers are appreciated.

I have the same problem.

My VN7-591G has 1.05 bios version and Windows 10.

The screen started to blank randomly. I updated the graphical drivers and it worked for some time. Then it started to go worst until the pc was almost impossible to use. Using an external monitor everything was working perfectly (but with the main screen off).

I read a bios upgrade could resolve the issue and I downloaded the official 1.15 bios. The .exe started and immediately restarted windows. After the POST nothing happened, the procedure was stuck with a fixed cursor on top-left. The same happens with 1.08 and 1.13 versions.

Then I found and followed the Fn ESC procedure.

Extracting and renaming the file as HadesSX64.fd did the trick, but the bios didn't change, it was still at 1.05, exactly as explained by JimboMahoney.

I tried 1gb usb keys, different usb ports, all bios versions available, but I found no way to flash the bios.

Now the laptop is working only with an external monitor, it's very annoying.

Any ideas?

I was unable to solve this myself (also contacted acer support) , I end-up shipping my latop to acer support in my home country(the netherlands). Within 14 days I had a working latop again...
