The HDD is my Aspire 5349-2899 is failing and I'm look to replace it with SSD.

Can anybody definitively tell me if the 5349-2899 is a SATA II 3GB/s or SATA III 6GB/s interface?

Much appreciated,

It does seem that the HM65 Express chipset supports Sata III.  Thank you.  Also seen here:

Interestingly, it also looked like the chipset was recalled.  What does that mean for me, if anything?

The chipset does support it but since Acer makes its own custom boards, it doesn't necessarily guarantee that it would have it. I would feel very confident that it has SATA3 based on the crucial link....and then factoring in the chipset supports it.

I would say there is a 99 percent chance that it is SATA3 6Gb/s. But even if it didn't, you would notice remarkable speed improvements with SSD and SATA2.

I use Crucial BX100 SSD 250GB in my Acer desktop and it's like night and day vs HDD. I'm not familiar with your computer, but you should make a backup USB or DVDs of your current HDD drive. Also make a backup system image. Acer has some videos on YouTube that show you how to do backups.

Some SSDs come with cloning software and some don't. Or some people just do clean installs on the new SSD.

I wouldn't worry about re-call, but then again I don't know anything about it.

If you have any troubles, you can try updating the BIOS on your computer.

This is the Acer recall page.  I don't know if your product is affected.  You can enter your SNID/serial number to find out.

Thanks for attempting to move this, however it only moved my latest reply to Legacy, not the entire thread.  So now there are *2* threads, one in Chromebooks without my 'final' reply, and one in Legacy with only my 'final' reply.   Perhap you can move back my final reply and move the entire thread to Legacy?

I'm going to repost that final reply to the main thread here, as it is germane to the solution:

I got my Samsung 850 Pro and it Does work at SATA III speeds getting some 530mb/s reads.

    Thanks for help.
