ES1-512 will hibernate if open, but not with lid closed... LED goes blue/red flickering??

I want laptop, when closed, to go to sleep, then transition to hibernate.

When open, transition works. Running, sleep, hibernate.

When closed, transition fails. Running, sleep (slow orange blink), then fast blue/red flickering LED.
During flickering battery consumption is large and battery goes dead quickly.

I have tried lots of power config settings.

Lid -> nothing or sleep - same results.

Lid -> hibernate - works, but is NOT what I want.

Button does hibernate, but is not what I want.

I want it to do what it should - sleep, then hibernate....

What does blue/red flickering LED mean?

Ok, I found a workaround - with a caveat.

The xHCI driver apparently conflicts with something that causes chaos when the laptop attempts to transition from sleep to hibernate with the lid closed.

This is definitely a bug that needs to be fixed! Acer needs to work with Microsoft to find the problem and fix it.

If you go into the BIOS settings (reboot and hold down F2) and disable xHCI.

The USB ports will revert to PCI mode. All the USB ports work, though I think they are USB 2.0, not 3.0

Now the power setting can be set to sleep when lid closed and it will transition to hibernate when appropriate!
